A Society has been registered on 15th June 1921, under Tranvancore Regulation Act No.10 of 1089 and began to function as “PARASPARA SAHAYA SAHAKARAANA SANGHAM” for the welfare of the teachers and Government employees of Cherthala town. The functioning of the Bank started during the First World War, when the life of the people was in misery. Hence the main aim of the institution was to provide essential commodities to commoners in an affordable price. The institution has played a key role to provide relief to public to some extend, during the period of 2nd world war also. The institution gave due care to protect the health and wealth of the people.

In the beginning, the area of operation of the institution was restricted to Cherthala North, South and Kokkothamangalam Villages only. During 1969 the jurisdiction was extended to the Cherthala Taluk and became engaged in functioning by accepted the name Cherthala Govt. Servants’ Co-operative Society Ltd No.235.

From 1980 onwards, the society started to accept the ‘Deposits’ and began to travel through a new path of growth. Since 1982 the society has been working as bank by accepting the name Cherthala Govt. Servants’ Co-Operative Bank Ltd. No.235 and gradually bank achieved a distinguishing position among the employees’ co-operative societies in Alappuzha district.

In 1985 the bank has been elaborated its functioning by created the post of the Chief Executive - Secretary, and the number of staff also increased, in that way the bank extented its functioning in an attractive and effective manner. After that the bank could be able to achieve an astonishing and unprecedented growth.

By increasing the growth of deposits bank could be able to provide different kinds of loans to the members in accordance with their need and necessities, without any delay. On 28th October 1999 bank achieved the classification of the grade- class1.

The Head office situating at the center of cherthala town, having the 30 cent owned property of the Bank. The main branch also locating there. Along the successful journey bank had opened a branch at Thuravoor and started another branch at Poochackal.

All branches of the bank are fully computerized and continue the ON-LINE functioning. We use the software developed by KELTRON, which is in the ownership of Govt. of Kerala. Bank attained the classification of class1 special grade in 2005 January onwards.

Bank got the dealership of RUBCO furniture. We have our own show room locating at the first floor of our main branch.

Bank started Neethi Medical Store at the K.S.R.T.C.bus station Cherthala, for the welfare of public. Co-operation and Coir minister Sri. G. Sudhakaaran lights the lamp.

We have been implemented the programme "Sahakaranavipananam Keraleeyam” as a part of Navaretnam Keraleeyam conducted by the Govt. of Kerala for public welfare during every festival season. By this way we still continuing our successful journey in an effective manner.

For the intensification of the bank, we gained the sincere co-operation and contribution from so many co-operators. In this occasion we express our profound gratitude towards them.
